Well, if its St Lukes as in reg district, its Middlesex and if its St Lukes as in West Ham/Canning Town it will be Essex, won't it? St L. births will be vol. II or 1b. Any West Ham area registrations will be XII (1837-51); 4a (1852-1946).; 5A (1946-65); 5E (1965-67). WEST HAM REGISTRATION DISTRICT Created : 1.7.1837.Abolished : 1.1.1968 (succeeded by Newham district). Sub-districts : Canning Town; Forest Gate; Leyton; North East Ham; North Leyton; Plaistow; Silvertown; South East Ham; South Leyton; Stratford; Walthamstow; Walthamstow East; Walthamstow West; Wanstead; West Ham; West Ham Central; West Ham North East; West Ham North West; West Ham South; Woodford. |

I live in the area known as St Lukes. Its in Canning Town, London borough of Newham formerley known as West Ham. We don't call it St Lukes anymore, its just South Canning Town.Sylvies right, theres as school, a church and a park all called St Lukes. |

In my experience in research, St Lukes refers to the reg district around Clerkenwell/Holborn/Cripplegate area, which is NOT West Ham. |

Kathlyn, There is an area in Custom House/Tidal Basin called St. Lukes.A church and park and school as have that name and is found under West Ham, Essex. Sylvie |

Middlesex looks OK, so I will have to decide whether to send for both certs. Why can`t people have names like car registrations there would only be one of them then. lol lol... Kathlyn |

Perhaps here ? From GENUKI website ST. LUKE REGISTRATION DISTRICT Registration County : London. Created : 1.7.1837 (sometimes 'St. Luke Middlesex' in early listings) Abolished : 1.8.1869 (succeeded by Holborn district). Sub-districts : City Road; Finsbury; Old Street; Whitecross Street. Looking for the birth of a relli and have found the following:------ Elizabeth Hadley...ond 1859 in West Ham, but I would have been more happy with Bromley.....the Elizabeth Hadley that comes next, also ond 1859 in St. Lukes...But how can I find out where this St. Luke`s is???? Kathlyn |
