You may have deleted it, by accident, but if so, it will still exist, but with just you in it. If you can't open it at all, then there must be something else wrong. One way you can check is to search for someone that you know is in your tree by name and date, and see if there is a match where the contact is yourself. If there is, then the tree is still there, and you have a viewing problem. |

I have just tried to access my tree on GR for the first time since I exported it and nothing is happening! Does that mean that I have exported my tree from GR and it is no longer there? Sorry but I am a bit of a dunce regarding gedcom files etc. Any advice gratefully appreciated!!! |

Thankyou for your replies. I will hopefully send the file to FTM without having to type it all out again. |

A GEDCOM file is a text file which you can open with any word processing software, but you have to have an advanced understanding of the file structure to make anything of the contents. You can import the file into almost any decent family history software though (which is what the file format is for), and the online help with your particular program will tell you how to proceed. There is no need to retype anything. |

Hi Can anyone help me please. I have exported my tree from GR and recieved a gedcom file which I am unable to open. How can I open it? Also can I export this file to Family Tree Maker without typing my whole tree out again ?( I recently had a virus and lost my FTM file) Thanks in advance |
