www(.)woodburydevon(.) co(.)uk is the webby for the area. The chuch is St Swithun and reading the history very quickly the church seemed to be under the Bishop of Exeter. |

Sorry you are all getting me confused. Example - if I was looking for someone in the 1860's in lets say Walthamstow in Essex - it would come under West Ham So if I was looking for someone in Woodbury in Devon - it would come under.............. Lin |

The problem is you are asking what parish but Woodbury IS a parish. You have been told Woodbury parish, ie the area served by a particular Church of England Parish Church (St Swithuns) covers Woodbury, Woodbury Salterton and Exton. You have also been told that that church parish was under the Bishop of Exeter. All this is useful info if you are looking up church records - ie baptisms, marriages and burials. You have been told that Woodbury came under Devon Central registration district from 1936 to 1974 and St Thomas registration district 1837 to 1936. This is the information you need if looking at BMD entries on the GRO index. |
