SWAB TEST...- BLOOD ON IT, WILL IT BE OK?

I've just taken the Y-37 swab (cheek) DNA test, but i scraped so hard (without knowing) that i got blood on the scraper...will this effect the results or distort any readings? Please reply to put my mind at rest, ive just spent £120 on this! Thank you. |

I wouldn't have thought mixing of skin cells and blood cells would be a problem. It's all the same DNA. Doesn't matter what part of you they get. Rose |

Thank you for getting back to me so quick. Its a huge relief! your not supposed to eat or drink for 1 hour before the test is taken.........i had a bag of haribo sweets, they might think im related to Berty Bassett or someone!! |

Blood won't make any difference. It won't improve the analysis either, since red blood cells (in mammals) don't contain any DNA. But you'll still have just as many cheek epithelial cells on the swab, so that'll be fine. |
