when born if 3 in 1841?

ok, im having a dippy half hour. im after getting elizabeth kay c1838 birth cert (she was my gt gt grandads sister) as i need to find out their parents details. i have john kayc1804 and he married mary c1809. cant find a marriage and or baptism for john. someone very kndly offered to look at wirrel records last week but couldnt even find them there. elizabeth was put down as 3 years old on the 1841 census. as theres around 7-8 with the same name born around the same place i need to try and narrow it down by the quarters. what would be her probable birth date range? i cant get isaacs cert as he went and got himslf flippin born in 1835 before the records started!!! cheers carolexx |

Eleanor you would be right for any other census but the 1841 was taken on June 6th ! Bob :))) |

Bear in mind that civil reg only began on 1 July 1837, and not everyone complied in the early years. (only actually became compulsary in the 1870's) Hope you're lucky Jay |

yes, ive confirmed with certs that it is the right family. i need now to find john and marys marriage cert or one of the childrens birth certs to get marys maiden name. i also want to try to find johns details in parish records so i can maybe get his parents details, carolexxx |

Hi Carole Just to add my bit. I think Elizabeth was born between July 1837 and June 1838, so the range of quarters would be Q3 1837 and Q3 1838. How many Elizabeth's fall in these 5 quarters? Remember, when ordering certificates, you can use Father's and Mother's names as checking references. Suzy |

thanx for that suzy. i have actually ordered one from sept 1838 wirral but the surname is spelt kaye. mind you in some census the family are down as key! ive also asked for ref check against fathers name, john kay. thank you carolexx |
