Advice please.... I have been trawling through Ancestry for the birth of my great grandfather. I have his marriage cert that states he was...Age, full......From the census I make his birth date to be c1843. I have checked all 1841, 1842 and 1843, not had time to go to 1844 yet, but in those three years I have found 24 possibles...(hang on while I go and get some anadin tablets) With a common name like John Roberts, born in Liverpool is it any wonder. Without spending 24 x £7 how can I thin this number down please. I am going to feed my owls now so I will be back in half an hour. Kathlyn |

No middle name i suppose? Do you know his parents names, if you do you could use them as checking points. I know its still expensive but at least then you will only pay £7 for the intial one and £3 for each check there after. Other than that are you far from Liverpool, you could spend the day going through the baptisms? |

Hi Willow, I am on the coast in Essex so visiting Liverpool is not an option. The marriage cert states his father as Robert Roberts, and his fathers occupation as, what looks like, mariner. The marriage cert says ....... the marriage was solemnized at...The Parish Church, in the Parish of Liverpool, and I expect there were/are quite a few churches in Liverpool, lol lol. I will try going further back on the census to see what that throws up. Thanks for your reply. Kathlyn |
