Could someone have a look at the image for me. It says he is 13 looking I am hoping it says 19 as this would find my missing John. b 1851 1871 census. Thanks Germaine x

It certainly could be 19. Compare the 9 with the one nine lines above (Thomas Wild) - they look very similar. I don't think it's a 3 anyway - all the other 3's on the page are completely above the line whereas this one the tail definitely crosses below the line. Whatever, it's not uncommon for the ages to be that much out on the census, even if it was a 3! Richard

Hi Germaine, What were parents names? There is a John Cowell on 1871 living with John (age 45) and Anne (age 45) ,plus 4 brothers and 2 sisters in Fleetwood. John is age 19 on this one. RG10 Piece 4224 Folio 139 Page 58.

Thanks Cheryl i need the John Cowell that was born in 1851 I have him in every other census bar this one and he isn't with his parents. Thanks Richard that is what I thought certainly doesn't look like a 3 to me either looking at the ohter 9's and 3's. Yes I am sure this is him i will stick to one side and check if his father had a brother to match trhe age of the uncle I think it could well be likely. Thanks for your help Germaine x

Thank Jane no that one isn't him I have his marriage cert and his father is Robert I found his parents in the town but he isn't with them so i think this one is him and is mistranscibed . Thanks for Looking Germaine x
