Well, if he was born around 1880 it will make no difference whether he was Catholic or Protestant as far as finding his birth registration goes, because that was well after the start of civil registration. You can look through the Irish GRO indexes at some LDS (Mormon church) family history centres to get the references (although some bits of the indexes are missing off the microfilm), or have a look at the Irish GRO website to see what details you need to supply to order the certificate because you might be able to order it without the references if you have enough information. www.groireland.ie Kate. |

Hi Sorry if i have put this on wrong board.( not sure what goes on where. wondering if anyone could tell me how to find a birth or any deatails in ireand. Have found out my great grandfather was not bornin belfast as i had always believed but in a place called Beltube, co cavan. having never been to ireland have no idea if this is a town, village or what knid of size area i am looking at. My Great grandfather was EDWARD MCCAFFERY born circa 1880 ( his son John was born belfast 1905) Edward married a bridget docherty in belfast but my aunt believes his first wife from belturbet died in childbirth, he then moved to Belfast to find work. Amy idea where i can look to find out. i know he was catholic i imagine that makes a difference in ireland. any help or ideas will be most gratefully recieved. |
