I recently made contact with a second cousin through tribal pages. The lady is my grandfather`s sister`s granddaughter. When comparing notes, we discovered that we both had a birth certificate for our great grandmother, same name, same parents names, including mothers maiden name, but hers was 1871 and mine was 1873 I thought this a bit spooky, until it occurred to me to look for a death of the one born 1871. Hey presto, there it was, right name, right area, and a zero for age at death. Seems that they had a daughter in 1871 who died at about 3 months old, then had another daughter in 1873 and gave her the same name as the one who died. What made it more confusing, was that the girl born 1871 was on the 1871 census The moral of this tale is, if you get a birth certificate and the mothers maiden name is right, dont take it for granted that you have the right one. |
