Why would a man go into a workhouse when he had a family, but his wife & children didnt, and his wife and kids have jobs. Much appreciated. Yvonne x |

Have you found him as a workhouse inmate on a census, or did he die in the workhouse? Many workhouses had infirmaries attached, the forerunners of NHS hospitals, so it was where those who couldn't afford private medical care went to be treated or to die. |

Hi Julie and Nell Thanks for your replies, yes he was a inmate and his occupation was a jet worker, so perhaps like you said he could have been in the infirmary there. I will try that site Julie.
