There are zillions of churches in Islington, if you include parts like Holloway and Highgate etc, as well as Islington village itself. Strictly speaking, Islington is North London, not East. There's a huge collection of parish registers for Islington churches at the London Metropolitan Archives. Here's a - not comprehensive - list of some of them: Islington [St Mary] Islington St John the Baptist - 1873 Islington St Jude, Mildmay Park - 1856 Islington St Matthew - 1851 Islington Holy Trinity, Cloudesley Square - 1830 Islington All Saints - 1839 Islington St Thomas - 1862 Islington St Andrew - 1844 Islington St Michael - 1856 Islington St Peter - 1836 Islington St James the Apostle - 1875 Islington St Stephen (AKA Portland Place) - 1849 Islington St Bartholomew - 1865 Islington St Philip - 1858 Lower Holloway - 1839 Barnsbury - 1862 West Holloway St Luke - 1861 West Holloway St David - 1869 (part from Upper Holloway St John) Portland Place (AKA Islington St Stephen) - 1839 (1849 renamed Islington St Stephen) Upper Holloway St John - 1830 Tollington Park St Anne - 1871 Finsbury Park - 1888 Upper Holloway St Paul - 1870 |

Thank you so much. I have a John Proctor c1831 who claims to originate from Islington. I want to check all possible records for him. He enlisted in the 11th Hussars in Hounslow 1850. Ellen X |
