Lisa J in California Report 10 Oct 2006 18:21

Don't know anything about Charlotte Lee's mother, Louisa DeJongh. Charlotte was baptized in Warrington, Lancashire on 26-Apr-1827. Parents supposedly were Thomas Lee and Louisa DeJongh. Wondering where I can search for Louisa DeJongh, please? Thank you.

UPDATE: I have an ancestor, Charlotte Lee, parents were Thomas Lee and Louisa(e?) De Jongh. LOOKING FOR Louisa(e)'s parents. Wondering if her parents were Maurice and Maria De Jongh. Updated information posted below. Any ideas. suggestions, help greatly appreciated!

Lisa, have you searched for the family on any censuses? I wouldn't be surprised if Louisa was born in another country, maybe Holland? A census entry or two would certainly help as when we know where she was born we can suggest where to look. Kate.

Hi Kate. Actually, I believe I did ask for a lookup for 1841(?), but can't find the information now (too embarrassed to ask again). If I did actually ask for the lookup, I believe her place of birth wasn't mentioned, as I don't have any information for her at all.

Lisa On familysearch.org there's a marriage for the parents in 1826, but maybe you already have that? There's also a birth that might be Louisa but check spelling. Patricia

Hi Patricia. Yes, that's the only information I know about both parents. A distant relative told me their names, so I know that the marriage you saw is 'their's'. But, that's all I know about the family. Thank you for your replies, Patricia and Kate.

Hi Fiona. I'm checking right now. Thank you. Hi Fiona. I do have Harriett penciled in, on another chart, so it appears to be them. Thank you, Fiona.

Thank you, Jim. I'm checking to see how close those areas were to Warrington.

Jim, Stalybridge is near Manchester and before I started researching years ago, I was told that the family came from Manchester. Fiona, would you know what 'school m' means, please? I was told that Charlotte was a teacher; wondering if school m has any connection. Also, that branch of the family passed down names, and some of Charlotte's children (she had at least 13) were Lydia Louisa(e), Charlotte Harriet, Charlotte Mary and Maria de Yongh, so the names are fitting, at least.

Hi Lisa, I think the 'M' is for Mistress so yes that would be school teacher. Fiona.

UPDATE: Wondering if the IGI record is for "my" Louisa(e). Wondering if she had at least two brothers. Wondering if Maurice De Jongh was Louisa(e)'s father. (Don't know her correct spelling; will refer to her as Louisa.)

Could this be "my" Louisa? (My Louisa married Thomas Lee 30-Mar-1826, Warrington.)
Louisa Dejong or Dyongh
Birth:
Christening: 08 SEP 1802 St Peters, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Father: Dejong or Dyongh

Louisa's brothers?
EDWARD DE JONGH
Birth: 23 JUN 1805
Christening: 27 JUL 1805 Saint Mary, Manchester, Lancashire, England
Father: MAURICE DE JONGH
Mother: MARIA

CHARLES DE JONGH
Birth: 05 JAN 1812
Christening: 27 MAY 1812 Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England
Father: MAURICE DE JONGH
Mother: MARIA

Louisa's father?
"The London Journal of Arts and Sciences...Recent Patents"
"To Maurice De Jongh, of Warrington, in the County Palatine of Lancaster, Cotton Spinner, for his New Invented Mode of Constructing and...Sealed 28th February, 1824"
"The Register of Arts, and Journal of Patent Inventions"
"Spinning - To Maurice de Jongh, of Warrington, for improvements in Spinning Machinery. Sealed March 29, 1825 - Six months."

Wondering who this could be:
Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s
Name: Louisa De Jongh
Year: 1871
Age: 47
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1824
Place: Toronto, Canada
(My family settled in Toronto prior to 1871, so this must be a rellie.)

Any suggestions, help, etc. very much appreciated! Sorry this has been so long-winded.
Note: Louisa's daughter married into the Furnival line. I have been in touch with Furnival descendants regarding the Lee/De Jongh families. No one knows who Louisa's parents were.

Side note: coincidentally, Louisa's grandson received a patent in Toronto for an umbrella stand. I wonder if creativity ran in the family. :)
