Here's hoping someone can explain or please tell me I am right . I have a birth cert for CHARLES AUSTIN May 1848 Gargrave Skipton. Son of Thomas Austin and Sarah (formerly Skinner). This Thomas on the IGI extracted was born to William AUSTIN and Ellen WILLIAMSON. Now here is my dilemma. I have found Charles Austin age 2 on 1851 with parents Thomas and Sarah in Gargarve. In 1861 Charles Austin is 12 and a servant. In 1871 Charles Austin is 22 and lodging near Gargrave and is a railway plate layer. In 1873 Charles WILLIAMSON age 24 marries Sarah Ann Summerskill in Gargrave. In 1881 Charles AUSTIN age 33 and Sarah A are still in Gargrave and he is still a railway labourer.Their daughter Isabella Alice Austin age 2 (my gt grandma) In 1884 Sarah Maggie Williamson is born, daughter of Charles Williamson and Sarah Ann Williamson (formerly Summerskill) In 1891 Charles W Austin 42 and Sarah A are living in Skerton, Lancaster, Lancashire with Isabella A Austin 12 and her siblings. In 1901 Charles Austin and family including Isabella A Austin age 22 and sister Sarah Maggie Austin age 17 are still Skerton. Charles is 53 and still a platelayer. In August 1901 Isabella Alice AUSTIN WILLIAMSON marries my gt grandfather and witness is Sarah Maggie AUSTIN WILLIAMSON. Then in 1909 Sarah Maggie AUSTIN marries, daughter of Charles Austin. Am I right in thinking that these are the same Charles' or can someone make me see otherwise ? Ideas please, Kind regards Joan (with a load of certificates !) |

Sorry everybody, I wouldn't read it easily either. How do I break up the main text into acceptable bits? I did on the original typing. Joan |

Joan, Just put your title and then 'see below' in your first message. Then put the rest of your message as a reply on your thread. That way you can put paragraphs and split up the text. Kath. x |

Joan - I was trying to copy and paste your thread - then format it - but for some reason I can't get it to co-operate. It is necessary, for long threads to put just a little bit in the top box - then add your thread-proper as a reply. It is best if you can type it up prior to putting up the heading so that you can add the 'reply' before you get too many people hassling you about the speed of your typing LOL!! Victoria - who hasn't managed to read it yet either! |

Thanks Kath and Victoria. You learn something everyday. I now realise why I have seen replies asking to threads that have no text, questions or queries. Formatting sounds complicated and so I will stick to a mimi message first, then type really fast ! Joan |

Hi Joan, It's not too diificult once you get the hang of it. I selected your text from the header whilst holding down the left mouse button and copied it using the menu that comes up if you click the right mouse button. I then pasted it into a new reply and added some spaces. You can usually paste using the right mouse button menu but for some reason that wouldn't work on here today so I used the 'Ctrl' and 'V' buttons on the keyboard. Hope I haven't confused you too much. Sarah |

Thanks Sarah, I will try that next time I need to write an epic. Re-reading my htread, I think I have convinced myself that they are the same Charles. Has anyone else any ideas or thoughts before I add them all to my tree ? Thanks in anticipation Joan |
