Yes, that's a good one, Carol. Very useful, thanks. I think I may have seen it before but didn't bookmark it so at least I can do that now. There is also this other interesting website about Victorian London: www(.)victorianlondon(.)org (remove brackets) I could spend hours on there reading through all those interesting newspaper articles on various subjects. You can pick up all sorts of useful (or not so useful) tips LOL - I was browsing the Hair Care section (in Health & Hygiene) and had to laugh at this: 'How to clean the hair: English people use the following solution :-A teacupful of salt in a quart of rain-water. This can be used after it has stood for twelve hours.' No wonder their hair was always falling out! These days if our hair gets wet in rainwater we wash it haha! I'm sure it must've been pretty polluted back then, too, with all that smog! Have a read of some of the other tips e.g. for make-up etc - will have you in stitches! Was also shocked to read that electrolysis and rhinoplasty were being performed in Victorian times!!!

Hi Carol, I have visited this site and it is wonderful, it has enabled me to add flesh to the bones of my ancestors, where and how they lived, the terrible conditions they had to endure etc. It sure has made me grateful that I was born now and not then. Kathlyn
