Clive, If your Gedcom still has not downloaded it may be that there is a fault with it. I had a look on John's Demo Page (in Tribal) and found a bit about Gedcom's which had this to say: Sending a GEDCOM : Rejected 'If you want to upload a gedcom file (*.ged) and your gedcom file includes corrupted lines, your file will be rejected (f.e. because of containing non ASCII characters or invalid entries). In that case you must fix it manually and resubmit it for processing. (TribalPages is working on enhancing the GEDCOM processor so that it sends an email notification to the submitter stating the nature of the problem). To avoid rejecting, it´s recommended to test your gedcom file by DftCom2 compiler (It´s free!).' I'm not that brilliant with technical side of things myself - so don't ask me what all that means LOL. I would recommend posting your query on the Technical Board in the Tribal Forums. It's on their main page - you don't need to be logged in to do this - and click on the last tab up on the toolbar - Forums. Hope you get it sorted soon. Tribal really is a wonderful place to store your family tree. I've been with them over two years now and they are constantly making improvements and listen to members when we come up with ideas for things we'd like changed. (Don't bother emailing - just use the Technical Support Forums - plus you get help from other members on there, too). Best wishes - Athena |

Clive Sorry you are having such problems with Tribal Pages - I am still very much in love with it, but it IS the honeymoon period at the moment! I agree with your assessment of this site (oh, goodbye again everyone) - why spend a single penny on improving the site when you can rake in the millions by doing nothing. OC |

Val - putting suffixes after surnames results in a non-standard GEDCOM, which GR processes as it finds. The way I've dealt with this is to treat the identifier as a middle name. I mostly use this for numbering siblings with identical names (when the first one died) and I also classify my unknowns as (m) or (f). J |

I'd like to agree with you. I think GR has lost the plot (just had ANOTHER blank message). But as I'm locked out of Tribal Pages, I can't say they are knocking spots off the competition. Perhaps the truth is that the competitive standard is so low that you don't actually have to be any good to attract a wide membership. I am a grumpy old man, it is true, but it seems to me that any commercial enterprise doesn't actually need to be any good at what it does, it only needs to be not obviously worse than its immediate competitors. Mediocrity is fine, profitable and represents the status quo. |

I'm having the opposite problem. I joined both tribalpages and genesreunited last week. I have very quickly and succesfully set up a tribalpages family tree site - over 750 entries and over 60 photos. I downloaded the gedcom and uploaded it here at the weekend. Genes software has treated suffixes after the surname (such as Snr, or Jnr) as being the surname, and has treated the real surname as the middle name- I now have a lot of relatives who's surname is a date! For the past two days I've tried to access my genes reunited tree to amend the errors- but I'm getting 'unable to access' error messages. Taking this, and genes really clumsy messaging system into consideration- i'm afraid i'm not at all impressed with genes so far. My vote goes to tribalpages |

I had thought of trying, but I can't log on to my site with the administrator password while the GEDCOM upload is pending. It says I'm locked out. Pissed off is nearer the mark. |

My GEDCOM has still not been processed (since Saturday) and I have tried mailing support@tribalpages(.)com three times (as suggested) and three times the message has bounced straight back to me as undeliverable. Is it just me? |

Does anyone know of a problem with Tribal Pages. I uploaded a GEDCOM on Saturday morning that hasn't been processed yet (Monday night), and having tried to mail their support address, have had my message returned undeliverable. |
