I have a relation who died in 1895. In 1901 his widow has 2 more sons born 1897 and 1900. It just so happens that she has a lodger ( 30 years her senior, yuk! ) living with her. One of the sons has the same christian name as the lodger but they both have the deceased husbands surname, when obviously he was not their father. I don't know whether to add them to my tree as it will look like they are my rellies sons, also they are not really related are they? Carole xx

If you've got Family Tree Maker or similar, you can create another relationship (spousless) and add the children to it. J

They are related, inasmuch as they are half-brothers to the children of the man who died....... You could add them by giving his widow an 'unknown' second partner, then putting them on the tree as the offspring of that pairing. Hope that makes sense........lol! Reg

I have the same problem in my tree. My grandmother was widowed with 6 children, she then had two more,(who had her late hubby's surname) before she married my grandfather and had 5 daughters by him. I have them in the tree, but it's not very satisfactory really, but they are of course my late Ma's half brother and sister. Sunny R
