l have a Mary Anne Cooley who married a Charles Mecham in January 1844. Although it gave her as being of full age she was in fact only 15 and 10months!! This was in St Marys Lambeth, London. However....l have tried to find them on the census and can't find anything that relates to them. Where have they gone to? Would be grateful for any help. Thanks Maureen |

it could well be, Selina......l never found that. l wonder why l can't find them on the 1851 census, though? l wanted to see if she had any children. Thanx Maureen |

Hi Maureen - since you know Mary Ann's age you have obviously found a christening for her and thus you know the names of her parents. Have you tried finding her family on 1841? It is possible Mary Ann died and her children have been tucked into the family of one of her siblings - maybe with their name. Having found them on 1841 (where it only tells you if they were born in the County or not) you will be able to search for them in 1851 where, if they weren't born in London, it will tell you where her parents came from so that you can perhaps get back to their origins. It is free to search the BMD records on Ancestry, and it would seem that a trawl from 1844 would be worthwhile to see if you can find likely children. If you know their Christian names you can do a search for them. Do you know Charles age? If you do, perhaps just put in the area where you think he lived, the year he was born and Cordwainer in the keyword box. If you don't know the year he was born you can search the years around what you think was his birth year. Incidentally, girls were able to marry from the age of 12 then. Happy searching Victoria |

Many thanx Victoria........yes l have found her with her parents in 1841. Charles was a widower, and of full age....l have assumed that he was a lot older! l will try to find them putting in 'cordwainer' and see what comes up. l know thatany children that they may have had aren't with her siblings....she is the mystery in the family!
