Hi Gerri I looked for Wednesbury and Wednesfield on the google map and the distance was something like 10 miles between them...I'm sure they're not that far apart as the crow flies, lol. btw. I liked your thread on the general board. Heather

Just looked on a map and Wednesfield and Wednesbury are quite close together. Think it depends on how well the enumerator knows the area. My son often tells people he comes from Middlesbrough - he doesn't, but it's the nearest big town to where we live so people are more likely to have heard of it, so that's why he says it. Might be something similar with your rellie. Kath. x

Nell's right. Just because he always lived in Wednesbury, doesn't mean he died there. My grandfather lived in Hartlepool, but when he knew he was dying, he went to York to visit his eldest son and died while he was there. Kath. x

Kath? If your still looking in here can I ask another question? My rellie sometimes put place of birth as Wednesbury and at other times Wednesfield! Can you shine a light on that for me?

Without the death cert, you can't be sure which registration district he died in. He may have been staying with relatives, or in a hospital.

Thanks Kath but I have been trawling the death indexes all evening and can only see the above districts for reg of deaths. Most of the births I have that were born in Walsall were reg. in Wolverhampton!

Wednesbury is a district itself. See this page for all Staffordshire registration districts:- http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/REG/sts.htm SORRY - just looked myself and Wednesbury was created out of West Bromwich, so that's probably what you want. Kath. x

If a person lived and died in Wednesbury staffs. 1810-1886 Where do you think the reg district would be? West bromwich? Birmingham? Dudley? Walsall?
