I think I am going around the bend!!!!!! Sent for the marriage cert of my 2xg grandparents and it arrived this morning and went to check it against my info. Boy, but I am certainly loosing it!!!! Why did I not double, double check my infor before i spent £7, I know it was ordered the afternoon before I was off on a holiday to Russia, so I must have been up in the clouds..... HENRY WHITBREAD, 1833, married ELIZA BULLER, 1830, on 29th September 1875.......BUT their children were born 1857..1860..1862..1866..1867, I cannot believe they waited all that time before 'tieing the knot', and I have not found any previous partners. I have searched for both names prior to 1857 and found nowt. Suggestions most welcome Kathlyn |

Kathlyn My 2xgreat grandparents had 10 children between 1875 & 1898, before finally marrying in 1909! My 2xggrandfather was shown on the cert as being a widower, so presume his first wife was still alive before. Hope this helps. Angela |

I know of quite a few families where the parent's didn't marry until well after all the children where born - for various reasons. Sometimes one of the couple was already married and they waited until the first spouse died. Others just seemed to be like today's couples - took them a while to get round to marriage. Kath. x |

Who would have thought that it 'went on in them days' !!!!!!. This is the sort of thing that gives us headaches. I bet if my granddad knew that is nan and granddad 'lived in sin' for all those years he would have been mortified. Henry and Eliza were married in church and i am wondering if any of their children were present, or if they just grabbed a couple of people from outside the church to act a switnesses!!! Oh well, at least they did the descent thing in the end. Kathlyn |

Kathlyn Just as a matter of interest, mine were married in a register office & the witnesses were his half-sister & her husband. I do wonder if the ten children knew! Angela |
