I can't find a marriage for my 2xggrandparents. On my ggrandfathers birth certificate his father was John Henry Vince and his mother Elizabeth Vince formerly Kimberley and he was born in 1877 Hendon Middlesex. I've found them in the census ok. Elizabeth was born in 1858 so I wondered if her parents wouldn't allow her to marry so young. I've searched several years either side of their first childs birth and found nothing. If they didn't marry is there any way of finding out? Would her death cert state if she was married or not? Thanks for any ideas. Carole xx

Hi I have looked for the marriage on familyrelatives and between the years 1866 and 1920 there is no marriages for a Vince and Kimberley. There is every chance that they never married, I have a few that didnt, and I dont suppose it was something you would broadcast. As for whether a death certificate would show if she was married or not, a death certificate will only show what the informant told them, this goes for all the information on it. For reference a death cert before 1869 shows: Date and Place of Death Sex Age Occupation Cause Of Death Name and Surname of the Deceased Informant's Details Date of Registration Registrar's Signature Also the name of a dead woman's husband might be given. Since 1969, additional information is given; Date and place of birth Usual address Maiden name if a married woman

Thanks Willow, I'm beginning to think they didn't marry. I have found other John Vince marriages in London, but nothing looks remotely like Elizabeth Kimberley if it was spelt wrong. I suppose I will never know for sure. Carole xx

yeah I was just playing about with misspellings, but having no luck. As I said I have a few that never married, its not that unusual.

Wow Tracy that's exciting! 1917 blimey! Georgina, I found them in 81, 91 and 1901. Elizabeth was born Shoreditch. Bethnal Green is exciting as she lived there before her marriage or not as the case may be. Carole xx

Tracy I'm sure it's them even though he would have been 65! How did you find them so quickly, it takes me hours to trawl through all the records. I gave up after 1890, that's why I thought maybe they never bothered. Thanks so much to everyone who replied, I'm on a high now! Carole xx
