Hello everyone. Could you tell me please if there is some way of finding the maiden name of my ggg grandmother? It would appear that she became a widow and i can't find a birth unless of course I know what her maiden name was. She lived with my g grandfather George Howe b1861 in the 1881 Census. Oh I do hope this isn't a 'Trying to Find' question as I am at my wits end. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you all in advance. Regards Ros

I have replied but I didn't realise I should be replying here. I am a silly so and so. Sorry. Told you I was new here. Anyway. 1881 Census: Jane Melhuish b1806 age 75 lived with her grandson George Howe b1861 age 20 in brookcader road, kingskerswell, Devon.I have seen the 1871 Census with William Melhuish age 64 c1807 and James Melhuish age 21 c1850 - I have written every melhuish name down in my writing pad to study them. I don't know if this little family is mine, as this lady is born 1808. There are so many Jane Melhuish ladies. I think I need to stop tonight and get some sleep - my head is going round and round. I'm sure it's not the wine doing it!! Laugh. Once again Thank you to you all. Goodnight for now Regards Ros

It is quite normal for ages to be a couple of years out on a census. They were not as well schooled then. The only way to be certain of who is who is to buy certificates. You seem to have births registered, which is not as routine as you might think. death Jane Melhuish abt 1805 1891 Jul-Aug-Sep Newton Abbot Devon 1891 Jane Melhuish abt 1806 Kingskerswell, Devon, England Grandmother, Grandma Kingskerswell Devon 1881 Jane Melhuish abt 1806 Kingskerswell, Devon, England Head Kingskerswell Devon 1871 Jane Melhuish William abt 1808 Kingskerswell, Devon, England Wife Kingskerswell Devon 1861 Jane Melhuish William abt 1808 Kingskerswell, Devon, England Wife Kingskerswell Devon 1851 Jane Mellnish William abt 1808 Kings Kerswell, Devon, England Wife Kingskerswell Devon 1841 Jane Melhuish abt 1811 Devon, England Kingskeswell Devon You appear to have Ancestry. I suggest you check images maybe they lived in the same house for more than one census.

Good afternoon everyone - my head is clearer today. Jim of So'ton, thank you for your help. I have all the names you have typed - sorry you went to so much trouble. I have written all these names into a writing pad and I study them after coming off the computer. It would seem you are correct regarding the dates (that there could be a couple of years difference in the Census records). I have decided to write them all out again on different sheets and lay them out in front of me. I think I am getting the hang of it all now. I have decided to look at the Census 1841 again because I may have located William Melhuish C1811 married to Jane unknown c1811, parents. I think they are John c1791 and Elizabeth c1796. I feel so much like a detective!! I'll dig deeper now I have some more names and pray I get it. I will also look at the name Gale you gave and Bale I have written. Thank you so much once again. Regards Rosaline Ps. Forgot to mention; I got a lot of info from FreeCen

Hello everyone, I think I have sorted this out. After much searching and detective work, I think my Jane Melhuish is a GUSWELL. Yes, James Melhuish is family. I am going to have great fun putting all of these people together to make sense in my plan. Thank you to all of you that tried to help me. You're stars. God Bless. Rosaline xx
