SORTED - East Ward, Westmorland - Register Office

Does anyone know which town the register office for the East Ward Registration District would have been located in. I have just got a certificate for a marriage in 1887 that took place at the Register Office but they only give the district and don't mention the town it's located in. Cheers Cath

If you go to genuki website, and check out the district, the towns it covers are listed......... Reg

Just looked for you.........these are the main towns..there's a long list of villages etc.............. EAST WARD REGISTRATION DISTRICT Registration County : Westmorland. Created : 1.7.1837. Abolished : 1.10.1937 (succeeded by Westmorland North district Appleby; Kirkby Stephen; Orton. GRO volumes : XXV (1837-51); 10b (1852-1937). Do you know where the bride lived? Reg

Reg Bride lived in Ravenstonedale and groom in Tebay. Both small locations I believe. cath

Kendal Record Office have confirmed that in 1887 the Register Office for East Ward was located at Kirkby Stephen.
