Evening all. I've just been sent a copy of a will (been waiting since June...) my gr grandfather passed away at an address on Berwick Sq West Derby Liverpool. I can't track it down on 'Streetmap' etc. Does anyone know the West Derby Area & let me know if Berwick Sq still exists? cheers Sandra

Hi Sandra It is not one I have heard of. However, I am looking at an old A-Z for Liverpool - Berwick St and Berwick Close, West Derby are actually linked together in a square shape, so I wonder if this was originally Berwick Square. Simone x

Berwick Street was off West Derby Road, next to Tweed Street, near to Shiel Park. I can't find a Berwick Square on any of my old maps.

Moe, you are talking about a more modern map, I think? the map I have was way before Boaler Street was built. It depends really on what years she is talking about ? On a later map Berwick Street runs from West Derby Road thru to Boaler Street, and Proctor Street was off Tweed Street. Which has long gone !

poirot, well i admit i used multimap to cross ref, but my 1911 cd has boaler st on it then, so your map must be older? as you say it depends on the year shes looking at.... ps have you seen the new estate just been built there now houses are gorgeous!!!

Looking at 1881 census, Berwick Square is preceded and followed by Berwick Street. Obviously, that reflects the route taken by the enumerator, and may not give an accurate picture of its location. The description of the enumeration district reads: Division Street both sides, being the first in the Rural Division Martin Street Burke Street Procter Street York Street with Ash Grove Woodbine Grove Oakleigh Grove Stanfield Street Berwick Street, West Side West Derby Road, south side, from Division (page torn) to Berwick Street - Procter St Oddly, no mention of Berwick Square........... I'm dead pleased with so many replies!!! thanks so much. I'm not native to Liverpool so it's a great help! The year I'm looking at is 1906, the year my Gr Grandfather died. If I can get some bearing as to where it is/was in West Derby I can perhaps get to visit it sometime........once again, thanks for all the replies & any more info would be fantastic!!! ps some of you are up really early on this......such dedication!! Moe, the name is Frederick William Ralph Harrison. As you may have gathered I'm a novice so bear with me..........cheers

I have a 1908 map of West Derby. Berwick Close was half way up Berwick St but the whole area has been redeveloped and where Berwick Close was is now under West Derby Road realigned. Bad news I'm afraid. Keith
