Hi All Rach and Phil think Hempshall road must have been a lot longer then lol Btw I am not far away from you! John, I am off out to a friends tonight and they live near the farm and have done so all their lives (so did their parents) I will ask them if they know anything about the history of the farm, in fact i think they might know the current residents! You never know they may know something! Kaz :o)))) |

Thanks to everyone for your help and input. Yes, it could be Hempshall. Sometimes the census images are hard to read. It looks like it was farmed by the Wigley family, first Thomas and then his son Charles (my relies) from at least 1841 to 1891. This is just based on the census returns. I am still exploring that side of the family and the suggestion of having a look at the Nottingham archives is an excellent one .... so thanks for that. There were a number of sons and clearly the eldest got the farm while the others had to find other employment. Unfortunately or fortunately, my Gt Gt Grandfather was one of them. But its nice to think that the place still exists, even if it is only the name. |

If you look on the a2a website, Nottingham Archives have the sales catalogue for the farm in 1927, amongst other properties, in the Edge family of Strelley papers. Nottingham Archives are very good. You could email them, and I'm sure they'd send you a copy for a small cost. |

Hi ya Yes lived in Nuthall and one of my boys still goes to school in Assarts Road. The farm house is still there with a small bit of land but is a housing estate now! Kaz :o) |

Kempshall Road no longer exists as far as I'm aware and I've had my A-Z out to double check! All I can find is ASSART ROAD, clearly named in reference to the farm and as I said before DH knows that area as ASSARTS FARM. There's even an Assarts Farm Medical practice in the area so the name if nothing else clearly hasn't been forgotten... Wish I could give you something more positive. Oh and no problems, has distracted me nicely from my awkward ancesters lol |

Thanks for the info. Don't go digging on my account. It was idle curiosity although, if it did exist, I might be tempted to have a look next time I'm in the area. Its not often you can tie relies down to a specific location and it looks as if the farm was in their hands for at least 70 years. |

On the 1881 census it was Kempshall Road. |

Have just spoke to DH, he says ASSART FARM has possibly gone now, it's in the area his brother lives (now a housing estate) but there is still some farm land there but no idea which farm it belongs to. I can do some digging around if you want? |

Do you have an address for that? A street name? Anything? I'm in the area (thereabouts), would need a clue to help me work out if the place still exists or not. |

Do you know if there is a farm called Sart or Assart Farm? I have discoverd that my relies owned this farm in the 19th century and was curious if it still exists. |
