The best thing you can do is to obtain his marriage cert.........it will tell you his age at the time, plus his father's details. That info should make the task easier.......... Reg

Thanks English Bob, Have tried that one but like Lynn have come across hundreds with the same name. I have found him after 1904 when he married my grandmother and he was in Kilburn London but that is about it.

.....if they had siblings, look for them. The next census back or forward may have the sisters and younger brothers still at home.. keep trying sometimes you have to go sideways at the search. Bob

I have the same problem, I can't find my gt.grnadfather in the 1901 census and I think he was away fighting. I can't find him on the 1891 census because he has a common name, and I don't know which one is mine. Lynn

If he was serving in 1901, he must have been over the age of ten! so search for him as a younger man in 1891. Bob

How do I search for my grandfather who was serving in the Boer War so is not showing on the 1901 census so I cannot trace his parents.
