where else I can order southern Irish certs from--the lady at their GRO was most unhelpful--on the application form it said they accept credit card payments--but she wouldn't then said I needed to send a 10 euro bank of Ireland money order_have tried but can't get one. She sounded as though she had never had a request for a cert before and that I was crazy even wanting one!!!

Hi Charlie, a couple of years ago I ordered a birth certificate from the Dublin GRO - I had to print off the order form and send it by post with credit card details and the certificate arrived very promptly. At the time they couldn't take card payments on line.

Thanks, I've printed off the form so I'll get it sent off, hopefully the cert will help me solve a wee mystery. I don't think whoever I spoke to knew anything either--maybe she was just helping out or new or something!!

I've had good & then not so good responses from the Roscommon office. The first time I downloaded an application form for a death certificate and a marriage certificate. On the death I supplied only the name of the person I was looking for, that it possibly occurred in Dublin and a whole year to search. On the marriage I supplied both names and a year range. Within 10 days of posting it off I received the death certificate back and a lovely note saying they couldn't find the marriage (I've since learned I asked for the wrong dates). My card was charged about £10.50 in total once the Euro had been converted. The second time I downloaded a form was for a birth certificate and again I could only provide a name and year. It took 10 days and I got a very blunt letter back saying that in order to provide a birth certificate they would need that persons full name, both parents names, the date of birth, area in which it occurred (like if I knew all that I wouldn't need the certificate would I!!) and a blunt letter stating that they didn't undertake genealogy searches of any kind. On balance I think it depends who opens your letter and what mood they are in! The only other way is to visit Ireland and search the records yourself - not so easy!

can i add on here? i have a marraige cert from the overseas 1837 army, but no female details i know all the details can i get another fuller copy from the above adresses or will i have to apply to the church direct(Co kildare)? moe
