Can anyone tell me how I go about looking up a marriage that possibly happened between 1901-8? My husband's gr-grandfather, Walter Ayres, married Agnes Howard, and I don't know how to look up their marriage date. THanks

The only place you'll find a date is on the certificate. You can order this from the GRO, once you know the reference. I'll have a quick look, but you can search the BMD records free on Ancestry: http://www.ancestry.*co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8965 Do you know where they may have married? I can't find a match for those two names.

I think they would have married in London as that is where they lived. Or maybe in Reading? Thanks for looking. I thought you had to be a member of Ancestry to look it up?

Hi I have just had a look on the GRO from 1901 to 1908 to try and match a Walter Ayres with a Agnes Howard but did not find a match. Are you certain of the spellings of the surnames (could it be Ayris or Ayers) and (Howerd). do you have any idea of where they might have been married geographically? That might help to shorten the odds. Regards Beryl
