Sorry about that, forgot GR bunched up, Bear with me here, im getting confused myself! Is there any other way I can confirm that William Ranken born 1829 Heston Middlesex, according to Pallots baptisms is the same William Rancombe from the 1871 census :- Name: William Rancombe Age: 41 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1830 Relation: Head Spouses's Name: Ellen Gender: Male Where born: Heston, Middlesex, England Civil Parish: Charterhouse Hinton County/Island: Somerset Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: Bath Sub-registration district: Twerton ED, institution, or vessel: 5 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 108 Household Members: Name Age Eleanor A Rancombe 1 month Ellen Rancombe 26 William Rancombe 41 William J Rancombe 3 Occupation Chelsea Pensioner Working Gardener I cant find a marriage certifcate for him and Ellen, Ellen's maiden name was Dascombe. I have looked at other variations of the name Ranken in the the pallot marriage and baptism register and it does appear to be mistranscribed/spelt in a variety of ways e.g William Ranken's parents are recorded as Rosanne & John Ranken on the pallots register 'Wm Ranken 1829 Jno Ranken Rosanna Ranken Heston Middlesex ' there is a few others that appear to be siblings of William:- Jno Rancomb 1831 Jno Rancomb Rosannah Rancomb Heston Middlesex Sarah Rancomb 1835 Jno Rancomb Rosannah Rancomb Heston Middlesex Geo Rancomb 1833 Jno Rancomb Rosanna Rancomb Heston Middlesex These dates also match up to 1841 census Bohannal Rankean abt 1811 Middlesex, England Heston Middlesex Elizabeth Rankean abt 1840 Middlesex, England Heston Middlesex Emma Rankean abt 1839 Middlesex, England Heston Middlesex George Rankean abt 1833 Middlesex, England Heston Middlesex John Rankean abt 1811 Middlesex, England Heston Middlesex John Rankean abt 1831 Middlesex, England Heston Middlesex Sarah Rankean abt 1835 Middlesex, England Heston Middlesex William Rankean abt 1829 Middlesex, England Heston I have found what I believe to be William Rancombe's first marriage to Mary Rebecca Cole, on it his father name is John Rancombe occupation Labourer and he gives his occupation as a corporal in the 22nd Regiment. This first marriage could explain why he never married Ellen. It also fits in with being recorded as a Chelsea Pensioner on the 1871 census. Well when I went to Kew the other week I managed to locate William Rancombe's pension papers for the 22nd regiment. However it has limited personal information on it, but it does show him being pensioned out on the 16th April 1867. I also looked to see if there was any records at Kew that would show me if he was collecting his pension in Hinton Charterhouse, Bath in 1871, but unfortunately the records for Bath only go up to 1861. So is there any other way that I can confirm that these are the same people??? any ideas, its driving me mad! |

Willow I'm pretty sure by 1829, the Parish Register included the name of the father and his occupation. If you were able to look at the PR from which Pallotts was taken, you might confirm father John, labourer. I think Heston is now LB Hounslow, and so should be at the LMA (check their website), or if you're not near London you might be able to order at your local LDS Centre. Good luck, Carol |
