I've 'lost' my Fry family in 1861 can anyone track them down? (See below....)

Rachel Report 4 Oct 2006 15:44

This is the family in 1871. Name: Amey Fry Age: 19 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1852 Relation: Daughter Father's name: Joseph Mother's name: Hannah Gender: Female Where born: Oxenton, Gloucestershire, England Civil Parish: Oxenton Town: Oxenton County/Island: Gloucestershire Country: England Registration district: Tewkesbury Sub-registration district: Overbury Household Members: Hannah Fry 64 (Uley, Gloucestershire, England) Joseph Fry 65 (Charfield, Gloucestershire, England) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Amey married in 1873 and is recorded with her husband on all later censuses. Joseph died in 1874.

I can't see Hannah & Joseph on 1851 - have you found them? Are you sure they are her parents - ie have you got Amey's birth certificate (jfm 1852 tewkesbury 6a 400)??

Rachel

Rachel Report 4 Oct 2006 16:27

I can't find them in 1851 and have about 5 possables for Joseph in 1841. I don't have Amey's birth cert but my granfathers cousin has it and confired the 1871 census for parents names.

Lunar - is there an easy way for you to get the pob from the birth cert? It seems odd the whole lot are so elusive.

Joan Report 4 Oct 2006 16:49

Hi Lunar, I am as baffled as everyone else here and it is so frustrating when you know the family should be there. Did Amey marry William Barnes ? As i can see the marriage reference for 1872 O-D is 6a 912a. Am I right in thinking that an 'a' after the number means there has been an amendment to the certificate or the registration ? Joan

Rachel

Rachel Report 4 Oct 2006 16:49

Not at the moment, the cousin's offline for a while and I don't have a postal address so my have to borrow some of the christmas money to get the certificate so I have my own copy. I know Amey was born in the Tewkbury area but Oxenton and Bredon seem to be the areas she gives. No doubt she'll end up mistranscribed or on a missing page! lol

Jools

Jools Report 4 Oct 2006 16:53

Where does Bredon come into the equation??

Joan

Joan Report 4 Oct 2006 16:59

It seems from the 1901 census that she was living in Breden Worcestershire with husband, William and family. Am I right in that ? Joan

Rachel

Rachel Report 4 Oct 2006 17:09

Amey did married William Barnes (they are in Bredon in 1881, 1891 and 1901) Amey's PoB was written in one of the family records as Bredon, but it happens to the place that she lived after marriage.

Hi Lunar, I would be tempted to get the birth cert. I know its not impossible but mum Hannah would have been 45 ish when Amey was born. what do the experts think of the marriage registration. I have 3 certificates that were given the letter 'a' after the page number and all 3 had amendments on. Has this happened to anyone else ? Best wishes Joan

Rachel

Rachel Report 4 Oct 2006 17:46

I've never come across a leter after a page number before. Might have to order it again as can't find it (I usually scan them all but don't have a digital copy so am doubting myself)

Joan

Joan Report 4 Oct 2006 17:52

Sorry Lunar to put you to more cost but it might clarify things. Might be a thought to phone a registration office to explain the 'a', Joan Shall we have a whip round for you ?? Joan

Joan Report 15 Oct 2006 16:44

Lunar, on the marriage cert was Amey's father Joseph FRY or Joseph Barnes ? Did you get the cert with the letter 'a' ? Was there an amemdment on it ? Curious. Joan

Rachel

Rachel Report 15 Oct 2006 16:59

Hi Joan Amey's dad was Joseph Fry on both certificate. OOrdered the marriage with the a after the number but no ammendments on certificate. can only guess that its because of the date is not fully written. the year is missing from the date box and the month is spelt wrong.

Joan

Joan Report 15 Oct 2006 16:59

Hi again Lunar, You say the birth cert says mother Harriet and the 1871 says mother Hannah. Are these two the same person ? I can't find any of the Fry family on the 1861. Will look for the Barnes family, Joan

Judith

Judith Report 15 Oct 2006 17:16

Here are the witnesses to her marriage on the 1871 census - probably Amey's brother and sister in law: RG10/2677; Folio: 83; Page: 14 Woolstone Gloucestershire Alfred Fry 26 born Oxonton Hannah Fry 33 Frank H Fry 4 Sorry, thought this might help to locate the family in 1861 but not only are the Fry family not there, Ancestry doesn't seem to have Oxenton parish at all for that year.
