hiya had a quick look for a marriage, couldnt see one, if you begin by looking for marriage around time your grandad was born, then go backwards looking, it seems odd though that he doesnt use the Jr bit in earlier census, well 1891 anyway, if it were me, i'd deffo get marriage cert first, then you will have a better chance of getting birth right, and find him with parents on census off to do school run in bit cyas Julie |

think the best way to go now would be to order the marriage cert, do you have the ref's for it? I will have a quick look to see if i can find him, on census (if you like with a possible dad thomas as well) It is likely that the william does come from the family, usually had naming patterns, I have found this in alot of my family Julie |

No unfortunately I dont have the marriage cert. I know this is him as Charles W is my Gt Grandfather, Thomas' Son. The W in Charles W stands for William. No Williams in Eliza's side of the family or Charles for that matter could this be an option?? |

You could try finding him on the 1871 census, but its quite a common name so being sure its him would be difficult. You really need the birth cert to cross reference his parents names. |

I am trying to find my Gt Gt Grandfathers parents and any siblings. My Gt Gt Grandfather was Thomas Hodgson born 1863 in Lund East Yorkshire. He married Eliza Harbattle born 1868 I think I can get a copy of his bc but just wondered if there is any other way to do it? Thanks In advance |
