Hi I have been searching for a James Atkins b.1874 in Chelsea. Possibly shows up as Ernest James Atkins. He shows up in the 1881 census as being 7 and living at 56 Richmond St, Plymouth. However in the 1891 census I can't find him as he is no longer at that address with his family and seems to have vanished. Just wondered if anyone can so a census look up for me and possibly find if he was anywhere else in 1891 and 1901. Thanks Anthony

Before we start looking, have you reason to think that he would have been alive in 1891 and 1901? Reg

Just to confuse matters On the 1881 census there is a brother Ernest W Atkins b1880 but is then on 1891 census as William Ernest. So is James really Ernest James ? Do you have a birth certificate or marriage certificate. Maureen

I saw the WIlliam Ernest and Ernest William on the 1881 and 1891. William Ernest was born in Jan 1880, I have his birth certificate, and James' is his brother. I am only thinking James was still alive in 1891 and 1901 as I can find no record of death - he seemed to get to 7 in 1881 and then vanished by 1891 and 1901 - maybe he is dead but I just wanted to make sure. I believe James' birth ref is Chelsea Apr,May,Jun 1876 1a p274 I know WIlliam is missing from the 1901 census as he was in South Africa fighting the Boer War - that confused me for months !!!!

Hi Just done some more searching - I think the Ernest James Atkins born in Chelsea in 1876 is not the right one. On the 1881 census there is a James Atkins born Chelsea 1876 living in Middlesex with John and Jane. The census info for 1881 in Plymouth is right but I just can't seem to find James birth around 1874 in Chelsea or possible death from 1881 to 1891. Feel like pulling my hair out !!!! lol
