Thanks for that Julie. Think I will do all the wrting and just get Mum to sign things. Fortunately we do get on as Dad married within a year of my mother's death, so this is really the only Mum I've ever known :-) PP

Hi Pauline, His wife would now be his next of kin so yes it would need to be her who claims them. We have the same problem in our family, My Grandad never claimed his medals and my nan died in 1991. My grandad remarried to someone we don't get on with and he died in 2002, so we can't claim his medals because his widow is his next of kin. Julie

Hi Julie I'm the eldest daughter. My father served in the Royal Artillery. I have his service number etc. My father was unmarried at the time if WW2, and his next of kin then was his mother. He married twice after the war, firstly to my mother who died when I was 3 weeks old, and then to my stepmother. Should it really be her that claims the medals? PP

HI, My father never claimed his medals at the end of WW2. He passed away nearly 19 years ago. Can I claim his medals? If so how do I go about doing it? PP
