Hi, I'm trying to find details of a marriage of my Grandma's Her name was Kitty Hodgson born Lund East Yorkshire in 1923. I believe she had one child out of wedlock and then married a man named Haldenby and subsequently had 2 children with him. I have search all the free bdm and cannot find any record of a marriage. My Grandma was buried as Kitty Haldenby so there must have been a marriage at some point or could she have change her name? Was there such a thing as deed pole back then? Any help or advice of where to go next would be appreciated. Sarah

You won't find it on the free bmd as it is too late, they have not been transcribed for those years yet.. You will have to look at the complete ancestry images quarter by quarter until you find it. it is free for you to do, you just have to register To find a GRO reference http://www*ancestry*co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx replace the * with dot Linda

The child born out of wedlock would have been 1939 called Wendy Elizabeth. The first child of the marriage was a girl called Christine. I cant be exact on a year of birth but I would say circa 1942

Wow Georgina that was fast!! Without sounding stupid (i'm still a bit of a newbie) is this definately going to be the marriage?

Sarah I would say 99.9% it is the right marriage, the chances of a Kitty Hodgson marrying another Haldenby is very small. Georgina.
