On my great aunt's birth certificate it gives the informants name as her aunt's name followed by 'in charge of the child' and address. Now I'm assuming that the mother could have been quite unwell to care for and register the child but wonder if there could be another reason...any ideas? Also the registration was quite late, Alice was born 9th Sept but wasn't registered until 18th October so am wondering why.

hi caroline there could be lots of reasons why she is with her aunt maybe mum was unwell also you have 6 weeks to register the birth berni

Hi Bernie My favourite reasons are either she was unwell or still grieving the death of her husband the previous year but yes, many many reasons....*sigh* Caroline x

If only we had a time machine!....... I'd go straight to my 'flippin Matilda' and ask... why was she a boarder? a lodger? why did she live with her so called uncle? Why did her flippin Uncle only show himself when she was with him?...Who was this flippin Uncle Fletcher? Did she marry two Horton brothers? and a 'Poole bloke' inbetween? Why diddnt she reg any of her 'inbetween' kids? ( my g.granmother Emma Poole)Who/where did these two step sons come from? I hate her...love her...hate her....love her... Have given up on ever finding 'Flippin Matilda's' maiden name...untill we have a time machine. Zzzzzzzzz
