After ringing around I have found out that ALL the States and Territories electoral rolls can now be viewed at all Divisional offices of the Australian Electoral Commission. Previously they could only be accessed at each States Head Office in Capital cities. Hope this helps. Cheers Gerry |

The central library here in Perth has them on microfiche - for all states, not just WA. No doubt other major libraries in the other states have them too. Up to about 1980, you need to know the area that your rellie lived, as they are arranged by electoral district. The more recent ones are arranged alphabetically by state, which makes searching a lot easier if you don't know the area. The earlier ones (c1950 and before) give occupation as well as name, which can be quite useful. No, unfortunately none of the rolls are available online. Cheers, Richard |

QOUTE: you can log onto the state library of new south wales and use the service titled ask a librarian. It is a on line service where a librarian will do the look up for you and e-mail you or mail the electoral to you even to the UK. Thankyou so much for that, I'm in Aus and didnt even realise we could do that (have been trying to guilt my mother into making a trip for me as i live too far away ) I can leave her be now lol |

I was told these electoral rolls are up to the minute and are regularly updated as it changes and are on computer at Divisional Offices. I was told they are not available on the internet. To find this information out I rang our local library Casey Council in Narre Warren, Victoria... they said they didn't hold electoral rolls but told me where to go (in a nicest possible way) I ended up ringing the Victorian Divisional Office a 1300 number who told me anyone can access the electoral roll for all States and Territories now.... which is great and I'm rapt. Cheers Gerry |

Any idea how far back these records go? Is there a way to contact them by email (I don't fancy phoning Australia to be honest!). My Great Grandfather emigrated to Australia (Perth) around 1911/12 and I'd love to see if I can find out any further info on him. I've hit so many brick walls I ought to wear a crash helmet :o( |

Hi Gerry, Im not sure how far back they go, I do know that further back they need more details other then just a name. Go to www(.)sl(.)nsw(.)gov(.) tab on services, then ask a librarian, then new question to fill out the online enquiry form. Fill out as much details as possible and exactly what you need to know. I once had a call from the librarian to say there were too many of the same name so she was going to send everyone for me to look at which was nice. Good luck, Louisa |
