Thankyou, the birth cert says otherwise Baggins, but Mr Baggins appears to have been invisible (not even a first name has passed down). The mystery deepens. Again many thanks. |

In the case of a marriage it would say Mary Bilbo, formerly Baggins, or if she had been married twice - Mary Smith, late Bilbo, formerly Baggins. Alias or otherwise usually means someone who has been known by a name other than their 'legal' one - perhaps an illegitimate Bilbo who was known by their natural father's name of Baggins, or a Bilbo girl whose mother was widowed and remarried a Baggins and the girl was known by her stepfather's name. |

Hi, on a birth cert if the names of the mother are given as 'Bilbo' otherwise 'Baggins' (yes they are pseudonyms!) would this presume the name is an informal change rather than a 'legal' change like marriage or change by deed poll? Many thanks. |
