Hi yes that's right family, Julia is my great grandmother. I'm also fairly certain that's his birth cert on the index. He is down on my Gr-grandmothers birth cert as Joseph Josiah William Tomkins. He uses Joseph on the census, but he calls his son born on 1900 Josiah William Tomkins, so maybe he just sometimes used Joseph instead of Josiah, rather than having been christened with both as my gr-grandmothers birth cert seems to suggest. |

Richard, don't give up. Give us some dates of birth of Joseph/Josiah and Julia and we will see what we can do. Did you say you had them on the 1901 ? Joan |

Thanks for that unfortunately not them. They must have moved in after 1891. The names I were looking for were either Joseph/Josiah Tomkins, or possibly Julia Miller. But looks like they were elsewhere. They had certainly moved again by 1901 so probably were taking rented lodgins :( Thanks all same! |

I have not been able to find my great-great grandfather on the 1891 census before. I got the birth certificate of his daughter this week, and in May 1893 they are living at 18 Hare Street, Bethnal Green. I'm hoping I can track them to this adress on 1891 census, but I've been right through enumaration district 2, Bethnal Green South, which appears to be the section Hare Street is listed on, and try as I might I cannot find no.18! Getting very frustrated, and wondered if anyone with more experience navigating the censi looking for individual adresses could help out and let me know who is listed as living there...I'd appreciate this enormously! |
