could anybody help me please? i am looking for alfred robottoms parents and have hit a brick wall. i have found his marriage to hannah mitchell in 1874 in birmingham. i know he was born in birmingham in around 1850 but cannot find him on anything earlier than 1871!!!!!!!!! please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you checked on variations of his surname for his birth? I have just done a quick look on Ancestry using the Soundex option of the surname Robottom and there are two Alfred Robatham's showing up for the 1840s (1841 and 1844) for Birmingham. There are also variations such as Rowbottom and Roobottom - worthwhile looking into all the variations. Likewise - doing an 1861 Census search using Soundex option brings up these three possibles: Alfred Robathan, (spouse/parent Charles/Sarah) abt 1857 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England Son Birmingham Warwickshire Alfred Robotham (spouse/parent Mary A) abt 1850 Birmm, Warwickshire, England Son Birmingham Warwickshire Alfred Robothan (spouse/parent Emma) abt 1842 Birmingham Head Birmingham Warwickshire Regards Athena (ps - purchasing that marriage certificate will give you a lead as to his father's name and occupation - that will help narrow down your search for the family on the census records and help you go further back).
