Stage 1 is to create a GEDCOM file from your other tree program. Make sure you give it a sensible file name and remember which folder you put it in. Stage 2 is to go into Import/Export Tree (left hand side of GR screen, near the bottom under Other Useful Tools). Click on Import GEDCOM and then browse until you find the correct file. It will have a suffix GED. Follow the instructions for importing and then wait till GR sends you an email saying it's been processed. When you next look at your GR home page it will tell you how many peeps and how many names are now in your tree. This process deletes the tree you already had on GR. John |

I use Legacy and have no problems updating my tree WITHOUT deleting. Create a GEDCOM file in Legacy. Make a note of where it is, on my machine its Legacy/Legacy/Data/File name. Then go onto your home page here click on Import Tree and follow the directions |

When updating a tree on GR by importing a GEDCOM file, there is no need to delete the existing file, because it will be overwritten automatically. As has been said, you cannot merge files here. |
