Just wondering... could surnames be wrong on census. for example i found a marriage record for the surname loden, yet on birth cert i recieved today, mothers maiden name appears to be Dodden. Could this be the same person? Julie x

So is it possible, birth record could have recorded the wrong surname, as i cannot find one record of Dodden? Julie x

Hi Julie I'm guessing it may have something to do with the handwriting. Did you find it on freebmd? If you did, perhaps you could check the original on Ancestry? Heather

Hi Heather, No it wasn't on bmd, I ordered marriage cert for my great grandmother and Grandfather x2 from Staffordshire registry office direct, her fathers name was david sergeant. I looked on ancestry and found record of marriage for him to a Mary ann Loden. Which mysteriously i can't seem to find now. I sent o0ff for my G G grandmothers Birth Cert direct to registery office in Kidderminster and her mother is recorded as Mary ann Dodden, Which i also can find no records for.... so don't know which one if any are wrong. Julie, i've found the marriage on familysearch. Feb 1857 at Bilston, Staffs. I can't see those names in 1851 though. Heather

Thanks Heather.. I will check both on Ancestry and LDS site. Bloody ancestors Lol... My GG grandfather was only one who could write so that might explain the errors with the rest. Julie x
