The Natitional Archives site has details of where some hospital records are kept. You also try the county records office for the area in question. Even if you do locate them, it is possible you won't be allowed to see them, it seems to vary from place to place as to how long they are kept private. My great grandfather died in a Mental Hospital in 1935 and the Records Office advised that I would have to write to the NHS Trust to see if I could get permission to see his records. Sam x

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? How would i find records of a patient who was sent to Highcroft hall in Erdington, Birmingham in the 1940's? Have googled all morning and not getting anywhere. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thankyou, Wendy.
