How can I find out who lived at an address in the 1940./ 1950s thank you all again for any info.

Try visiting the local library where the address is and look at the electoral registers for those years.

I've been able to find this sort of information by e-mailing local record offices and libraries and asking them if they could look up the electoral registers for me. So far the ones I've asked have been very helpful. However it seems that there were no registers during the war years.

Is the area covered by a Gore's or Kelly's Directory? Keith

There were no electoral rolls for the war years of 1939 to 1945 and most Directories did not restart until about 1952. However you should find an electoral roll for 1947 Be prepared for the area to have been bombed out of existence if in an area where bombing took place. Janet
