What is the normal practice for recording a marriage to a widow/divorcee? Do you enter the name as registered (the previous married name) or the maiden name? |

The convention is that females are entered on the tree under their maiden name. If the previous husband does not also appear on your tree it then obviously makes sense to add a note that the lady was previously married and what surname she married under. |

A female is listed on one's tree under her maiden name. For second and subsequent marriages, I copy and paste the GRO info into the 'extra details' box..........thus showing the name under which she re-married. Reg |

If you use an offline tree program like Family Tree Maker (FTM), you can enter all the marriages for both partners and attach the correct children to each marriage. With FTM you can choose which marriage is shown as a first choice, so if you are mostly interested in the second marriage (or the only marriage if the wife had a child when not married) you can tick that one.
