Uncle John

Uncle John Report 30 Sep 2006 10:45

When I send info from my tree I tend to do it as an ancestor or descendant report, not a tree. I've received info as PDF files from other people and generally sind they are a bit of a pain. John

When you create a tree in FTM it will use as default font size of point 6, this needs to be altered to at least 8. (Format, Font Style & Size) Also another point which is not well known, when FTM included the 'print to PDF' option back in version 10, they did it on the cheap. As we were Beta Testers for them at the time we did warn them about it but they chose to ignore us. FTM willl only make a tree PDF up to 55 inches wide, if your tree is over this width it will be reduced to this 55 inch width, so if your tree is 150 inches wide when you form it, it will be reduced to 55 inches wide when it's printed to PDF, FTM will shrink everything to make it fit the maximum page size of 55 inches which can result in the tree not being readable. Does your rellie know about the zoom in and out feature in Adobe Acrobat Reader, click on the magnifying glass icon then your cursor will change to a magnifying glass, click on the chart and it will zoom in every time you click on the chart, you should be abler to keep clicking until you can read it. if they copied it to a photograph program such as presto they would be able to enlarge it.

I sent part of my family tree to a friend by email and they complained to me that the print was so small. They could not find a way of enlarging it. Can anyone help please? Margaret N
