Hi Diane, Glad it all looks promising. It was good to have something to sink my teeth into though. Regards Fiona.

Hi Fiona, You have hit the nail on the head again. Harry and Kate were definately Sidney Simpson parents; I know that Harry's mother was born Jane Simpson, hence Sidneys middle name. And the 1901 Census entry has tied down two whole branchs that were still floating around. I have just ordered Ernest and Violets marriage certs and this should confirm their parents as also being Harry. Well done, and thanks, super sleuth. Diane

Found this marriage thought it might be handy to keep incase the birth certificate has mother as Kate. Even the date itself may not be right. I know of an instance where a 17 year old needed his birth certificate and a new one had to be applied for. Shock, stunned horror. His birthday had been celebrated on a completely different date than the anniversary of his birth!! And this is only ten or so years ago. Hippy parents! Victoria

Hi Reggie, I recon to have waded through all the births of Hallaways from 1862 to 1983, so far and have not found him elsewhere. I also have the birth cert for Sidney born in 1904 and his father is listed as John Hallaways where as Sidney Simpson Hallaways' father is listed on his marriage cert as Harry Hallaways.harry Hallaways was listed at this point as a Labourer, but he had also in the past been a groom and poultry dealer. Carrie - you could be on to something as his bride is listed as being 26 at the time of the marriage, but it still doesn't account for not finding him in my methodical search of all the index images. Fiona - Thanks loads, I think you have to have found him! Thanks everyone for all your help. Diane

My Husbands grandfather died in 1977, informant stated he was 70 years old, they must have been going from his marriage certificate which tallied up, infact he was 85 when he died, I reckon he knew he was older just kept it going seeing as he married such a young lass who was 15 years his junior?????

A couple of years (at least) either side.........his age at death is only as known to the person who was the informant, and can be inaccurate. Reg

I am stumped...can anyone help me, please? I have details through the death entry in the BMD (Oct to Dec 1969) for Sidney Simpson Hallaways that he was born on 17th Apr 1901. This also tallies with his marriage cert when he gives his age as 27 on the 8th March 1928, but I have double and triple checked all quarters of the 1901 birth index images and there is no trace of him. Is there somewhere else I should be checking for him? Any clues would be much appreciated. Diane
