fresh ideas welcome trying to trace my dads 1st ma

My dad Edward Henry SCOTT born 1/8/1915 ( on his soldiers service book its says 1/8/1913 but i know the first date is right )in Burslam S.O.T joined the army on the 9/1/1935 his wife is glayds scott he enlisted in Burslem would i presume he was married their or could he have married in india where he was based the name Mottram seems to ring a bell for his wifes maiden name but cant be sure any ideas i am just at a brick wall

You could check the overseas list for a possible marriage but if you are saying that Gladys is listed as his wife on his join-up papers, it is more likely that he married in UK. My uncle married in Yorkshire, whilst in the army, although both he and his wife were from Hampshire, so I think you should keep an open mind about place of marriage. Gwyn

Carole, Have you looked through the marriages on Ancestry? Also, did he marry your mum? There might be a mention of the first wife on his marriage cert to your mum. Rose

Hi Carole Have had a look on Ancestry for the period from when your dad would have been 18 to when he joined up and can't see an obvious marriage. I have saved a couple of pages with marriages for an 'Edward Scott' but the areas are not perfect nor the maiden name that you suspect. If you would like them message me with your email and I will gladly forward them. Kind regards Looby

Hi, if his wife is mentioned on his enlistment papers then he would have married prior to joining up so presumably he married in this country? Suzanne XX
