how to find births earlier than 1837

Hi guys, just wondering if you know of any good sites that have birth records from 1700 onwards for Somerset and/or Yorkshire? Before i pull all my hair out.... Thanks very much Kimberley

You are in luck. I have relatives from Clutton as well. Try googling two web sites, Somerset Coalfield connections (it is a rootsweb site) and Clutton families. If you can't find the sites I will p.m. you the details. Also try High littleton history (google) it has deaths in Clutton workhouse. Did you have coalminers who moved from Somerset to Yorkshire? Before civil registration, you need baptisms which are in the parish registers, now kept in the county records office. Sometimes baptism entries also give birth dates, but not always. Many baptism records are online at www.familysearch.org which is free, or on www.familyhistoryonline.net which is a payperview site - check beforehand that the place and dates you want are covered, on their county databases list.
