Can Anyone Help I have James Rockett born 1811-1817(depending on which census you look at) living in Fishponds nr Whitchurch Canonicorum in 1841 and 1861 (Source Citation:1841 Census Class: HO107; Civil Parish: Hawkchurch; County: Dorset; Enumeration District: 14; Folio 16; Page: 5; Line: 16; GSU roll: 241339.) (Source Citation: 1861 Census Class: RG9; Piece: 1369; ED 7; Folio: 96; Page: 8; Household Schedule 39; GSU roll: 542802.) I can't find him or his wife or son on 1851 census. I have also tried looking for their neighbours from 1861 with no luck. I looked at Ancestry's list of missing or damaged pages but Whitchurch doesn't appear. I have tried looking through all pages for Marshwood and Hawkchurch nearby with no luck. Any ideas? Clare :-(

So they moved from Hawkchurch in Axminster reg district in 1841 to Whitchurch in Bridport reg district by 1861. Was George born Hawkchurch or Whitchurch? If the latter you need to search the descriptions of the Bridport enumeration districts to try to pin down Whitchurch.

Glitter baby, Have you noticed different birth counties on the two you found? Clare have you any solid facts from certs etc to go by, starting early and working forward more often than not leads to the wrong family being tracked. Keith

Keith, Yes strange that James is born Dorset or Devon but does not help me with finding the family in 1851. There is a birth registration for Thomas Rockett in 1843 Beaminster. Think it will need to be a look through all the ED description sheets. Maureen

Hi all Thanks for your time I will try looking at Bridport ED's I have George Rockett's birth cert : 17/01/1851 born Whitchurch Father James - Cordwainer (shoemaker) Mother Elizabeth nee Turner I have visited all the mentioned places in Devon/ Dorset and the border is very close. Hawkchurch to Whitchurch is abt 5 miles with Fishpond Bottom (listed as address in 1841) inbetween Whitchurch to Bridport is abt 5 miles Cheers Clare
