Hi Alan, Your relative wasn't Frederick Davis was he? I'm sure I saw a medal for him at the LFB Museum. Cheers, Horatia

The London Fire Brigade Museum is worth contacting. I went there last yr and got copies of my GGrandFathers records. I am back there this yr to see his medal and take photos of it. Alan

Not the right area but these websites have some interesting background info: http://members.lycos(.)co(.)uk/EIPGAM/ http://www(.)bbc(.)co(.)uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/45/a1300645.shtml I'm trying to put links on here but this stupid system of not allowing website links keeps destroying them and that's why Victoria's email link didn't work either!!! OOOH! This site makes me mad

Here's the website for London Fire Brigade and getting records. They have a museum there too. I think Romford only became part of Greater London in 1960 so as I say, not sure that London Fire Brigade will have any service records for you but the museum is worth a visit - by appointment only http://www(.)london-fire.gov.uk/about_us/our_history/your_history.asp

Victoria What was her full e-mail address, you've only put Lucy.price. It doesn't hurt to ask, and they might have a few bits of general info on Romford. At the moment I know relativly nothing. Even some info on what they did would be good (apart from put fire's out obviously) and the types of equipment they used. Thanks for your help R

Thanks Horatio I've send off a quick mail to the havering library. I had no idea they held so much stuff there!! Unfortunalty I'm in Dorset so won't be able to get over there any time soon. R

Hi Victoria, Yes, I got my father's service record from there too but wasn't sure if Havering (Romford) came under London Fire Brigade jurisdiction then; but there's only one way to find out! :-) Cheers, Horatia

My grandfather too was a fireman and I have copied the response I received from Paul Barton to a post I made, similar to yours. I got my grandfather's work record 1913-1939 from here. Hope it is appropriate to your search. Victoria Lucy Price Assistant Curator London Fire Brigade Museum Winchester House 94 Southwark Bridge Road London SE1 0EG Tel 0207 587 2894 She can send you a service record for your ancestor, detailing his career. They have to charge £4 for research, copying and postal fees. You can either send a cheque made payable to LFEPA or give your credit/debit card details. Her e-mail is [email protected] In my opinion £4 very well spent, as the information was incredibly comprehensive.

In Spring 2007, Essex Fire Museum will be opening so that might be of interest to you too. Cheers, Horatia

There is an article about Firefighters in Your Family Tree Magazine this month. (Issue 43) It's probably a good idea to consult a local archive. Havering Local Studies Library might be a good place to start: http://www(.)havering.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=3427 This website might also be of interest: http://myweb.tiscali(.)co(.)uk/homefront/fs/fs.html REMOVE BRACKETS Cheers, Horatia
