Hi - This is a new step for me on the genealogy trail. Any advice would be great as I can't easily get to Liverpool. Have tracked JOSEPH JAMES RONNAN b 1869/70 (probably West Derby) Liverpool and his ancestors back to 1841 census. Also him and his descendants from 1871 to 1901 census. In 1871, his family lived at 14 Epworth St, West Derby, Liverpool. On his parents' marriage cert in 1868, their address was 14 Epworth St. So I assume he was born at that address to his parents, RICHARD RONNAN (printer) and SARAH ANN EVA LANGAN. His father was Joseph Ronnan (printer) and her father was James Langan (painter). They were married at St Peter's C of E Church, in the parish of Walton on the Hill, Everton (reg dist: West Derby). Joseph was probably baptised there. I have verified Joseph's details are correct from living relatives back to 1891. To make absolutely sure I have the rest correct, I need his marriage cert. He is not on the Ancestry BMD index or LancsBMD index. His wife was Martha Elizabeth Garrity. His first child on the census shows as born in 1891. I have searched the years from his 16th birthday (1885 to 1892) on the Lancs index - no joy. By this time, marriages should have be registered...so where is he? I've tried all the spellings of his name such as Ronnau, Ronan, etc. Thanks. Jen PS How do I change my name on here to an interesting handle - not that I could compete...

LancashireBMD isn't complete, nor is freeBMD. You need to search the complete indexes on Ancestry, have you looked there? Sam x

Hi - Thanks - you've made me look at the small print at the bottom of Ancestry's BMD and only 50% of actual BMD are on there. I have searched in Joseph and Martha's names for Marriage and Death and neither show. To be absolutely certain I've got the right family, I need their marriage cert. Any advice on my next step as I can't physically get to Liverpool? Do I have to track down the church records? Martha was living in Islington, Liverpool in 1881. I have e mailed the Liverpool Records Office and they do 15 mins free search. Thanks. Jenny
